Emma Krenzer Biography
Emma Krenzer is a multimedia artist whose work explores the subliminal and concealed, both conceptually and through her use of materials. Emma’s work encompasses themes of the body, sexuality, femininity, and relationships, and how these subjects intertwine and inform one another. Emma also seeks to address the shame that often surrounds these subjects and the tendency to hide that shame by utilizing unconventional materials and processes in her practice. Specifically, Emma uses traditional building materials such as drywall, wood, and pipes. She constructs and then deconstructs these materials, creating holes in walls or exposed plumbing to illustrate what lies beneath the surface in a very literal sense. Using these materials as a metaphor for exposing repressed feelings and experiences, she hopes to encourage the viewer to confront their own shame and repressions. She is extremely influenced by psychology and exploring the conscious and unconscious mind.
Emma was born in Omaha, Nebraska and is currently based in Lincoln, Nebraska where she obtained her BA in studio art and a minor in psychology from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 2019. In 2017, Emma’s work gained global recognition and praise after a piece of her art went viral online. As a result, she was written about in countless publications, including Buzzfeed and People Magazine. She has also had work in several group exhibitions including the two person show "Unsterile" at Tugboat Gallery in Lincoln, Nebraska, and the NCIF O’Keefe Elevator Art Show in Omaha, Nebraska, where she was awarded an honorable mention in the 3D category. Emma currently works as an art instructor at Live Yes Studio, an art studio for adults who experience disabilities.
